Cover: Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

*****

Cinder was good. I loved the story and how different it was. SCARLET I loved more. It may have been the narrators fault that I can’t seem to get the story out of my head. I usually don’t listen to books. I like to hold it my hands and read it myself. I like to judge the characters and imagine their voices all on my own. However, I wanted to listen to this book since I had a little trip and some alone time. ( how hard is it to have alone time being a mom? so hard! no kids in the car… the quiet was almost creepy but I very much enjoyed the creepiness) This narrator BLEW MY MIND. She did all the voices and did them very well. I mean… very impressive. Then on top of all the voices she also did the appropriate accents. I couldn’t stop listening to this story! I felt like I was listening to a movie being played in the other room.

Scarlet lives in a little French town. Her Grandmother has disappeared without a trace 2 weeks ago. Scarlet has no idea why or who and has no leads until she meets a street fighter named wolf. Wolf knows more than he lets on. I loved this relationship. Both of them figuring things out together. The immediate connection. The doubt. Her figuring him out. They work together. They are the “Little Red Riding Hood” part of this fairy tale retelling. Scarlet has bright red hair and always wears a red hoodie. Her determination to find her Grandmother is heartwarming. Scarlet’s love for her is what makes her so fearless. I think that is part of why Wolf is so attracted to her. She is a strong woman who fights for what is right. I really felt more connected to the characters this time. I felt like there was more to love. Cinder as well. You get a level deeper into this story and in my opinion there was just more to love.

Cinder is still trying to figure out her past. She escapes the prison with a Captain Thorne. He is a criminal who went rogue and stole an American ship. He steals and sells valuables black market style. I really like him. It sounds like most females do. I can just imagine a handsome, charming bad boy. He is dumbfounded when his charm doesn’t work on Cinder like the thinks it should. They go to the only lead Cinder has which is in France. Do you see where I’m going here? Like I say in ALL my reviews, I don’t like to give too much away. I feel like I’m spoiling the fun in finding all this out yourself!

Prince Kai and Queen Levana is another story. After Kai realizes that war is inevitable he makes some really big decisions. He can’t find Cinder but he knows she is with a handsome American pilot.. and I do believe he is jealous. After Queen Levana’s threats become a reality Prince Kia does the one thing Cinder tried to prevent. I can’t wait till I make it to Queen Levana’s story. I am so curious now as to why she is the way she is. This story is all starting to come together. Some of it was a little predictable but I honestly didn’t mind. I like it when I see my favorite relationships come together. If you read Cider I would highly recommend continuing the series. I can’t wait to move on to Cress.
