Synopsis:

Love curses don’t exist. At least that’s what Jonas, master of the meaningless hookup, tells himself when a letter warns him he’s an Eros Guardian cursed to endure a test of true love or forever be alone. His levelheaded longtime friend Cora figures it’s a revenge prank by an ex. The way Jonas stamps each girlfriend with a weeklong use-by date, it serves him right.

But when an impulsive kiss between the two friends reveals potential for more, Cora becomes the target of the Groth Maar: demons sent to wipe out the Eros Guardian line. And suddenly the curse becomes dangerously real.

Breaking the curse means Jonas’s biggest challenge yet. Failure guarantees Cora’s death. But success may cost him his own life…and the loss of his carefully guarded heart to the one girl far too sensible to fall for him.

“Outside the gazebo, rain pelted the ground so hard it left craters. I’d be drenched by the time I made it back to the house. I didn’t care. I welcomed it. Needed it to flush the taste and feel of him from my mind. Needed it to drown the crushing fear that tomorrow morning I may hate the sight of him. Or worse still: that I wouldn’t.”

I keep wanting to call this one ‘The Third Choice’ instead of Kiss. Jonas is always talking about choices. Good choices and bad choices. If you knew you had 3 kisses to find ‘THE ONE’ what would you do? This one starts off with Jonas and Beth’s 18th birthday party. Jonas is a hottie, play boy type character that doesn’t take love seriously because he views it as weakness after what happened with his parents. They moved in with their Aunt Helena after their parents death and became best friends with the girl next door. Cora impulsively kissed Jonas last year when she found out her parents were getting divorced and she would be moving to Manhattan.  Afraid that it would ruin their friendship neither one had mentioned it again. Now Cora is back and Jonas has thought of no one else, but because he doesn’t believe in love nor does he want to ruin their friendship, he tries to forget.

Jonas receives a weird letter that is ‘The Loves Mortal Coil’ curse. Thinking it was nothing but a bad joke at first he wastes his first 2 kisses. As they delve a little deeper into finding more about this “prank” it becomes more and more real and Jonas realizes that his only shot at true love can not be wasted.

Cora is attracted Jonas but wants something real. She knows his play boy attitude is not for her. He could never love her. What made her kiss him a year ago was a crazy impulse and a huge mistake. When Jonas kisses her and she realizes what this means she is determined to break this curse. Its a good thing she is a black belt because she needs all that extra skill to beat the hell demons that are now wanting her dead.

This story was seriously cute. Best friends that fall in love. Even if you don’t want to ruin your friendship the chance to make it so much more is one that would be hard to pass up. It’s romance and friendship with some serious demon beat downs. Ancient love curses, traitors and secrets. It was a fast read and pulled me in right away. I love when a story becomes more with a paranormal twist. It makes things so much more interesting. I really loved this story and can’t wait to continue the series when the next book comes out! Happy Reading friends!

Also, a big thank you to Melissa at Entangled TEEN for sending me an Ebook copy to read before the big day! It was a good one and I was more than happy to review it!

Continue on for my rant of the day…. lol… or not..

RANT: Here is something that bothers me. It’s not exclusive to this book. Since I have started reading for my blog and wanted to give the books a content rating, I have notice so many that are Young Adult that have way too much ADULT content. I mean, when I think Young Adult I am thinking high school age kids. Middle grade would be younger than high school. Adult is 18 and up. I know high school kids swear. Not all, obviously, but lots of swearing and sex talk or innuendoes. Maybe even sex but to me that should not be the norm. I was in high school once. I remember, but I wasn’t having sex. I wasn’t at parties getting drunk. This is college age stuff. If this is considered Young Adult I feel like the setting should be at college NOT high school. There should be a difference then between Middle Grade and Young Adult. Maybe there is and I just don’t know about it? Like a TWEEN genre. Or TEENAGER genre? Now back to rating books. I like to do this because I feel like books should have a rating. Just like movies. There are things that I wouldn’t want my kids reading unless they were old enough. Why there isn’t a mandatory rating on books.. I’ll never know. Alright, so the thing that bothers me.. this is a teen book. Super cute story. A little romance. Why ruin it with 3 F*** bombs. I was reading on my kindle so I didn’t tab them like I usually do. I believe there were 3. It would have been better without! I would have been recommending to all the moms that want a cute love story for their daughters to read. Now I have to say, it was a cute story but the swearing was over the top. Maybe to a lot of you out there swearing isn’t a huge deal. I personally read ADULT books but does that mean I want my kids to read them. Not till they are old enough. Let them be little and innocent for as long as they can! Its like when a series starts out young adult and then by book 5 it is very adult. If you start a series in one genre it should stay there. Just my opinion. Thanks for listening to my rant. Agree? Disagree? Have any advise on book ratings? Please share and let me know in the comments!

  1. […] The Third Kiss by Kat Colmer was good. It is the start of a new series called Loves Mortal Coil. Its about an ancient love curse that manifests itself when Jonas turns 18. He has 3 kisses and if he doesn’t find the love of his life and plant one of those precious kisses on her then he will be alone and miserable forever. His best friend, Cora happens to be the lucky recipient. Does she help him break the curse or does she fall in love? YES. I liked this book. It is the start of the series so the next book doesn’t come out till next year […]

  2. I’m in high school right now, also living in Australia; which should be noted as I’m pretty sure the author is Australian, and everyone swears here. Kids in year 6 coming into high school are swearing, teachers even. So ‘keeping their innocence’ isn’t very likely. If they don’t learn it at home or on a show or book, I’m going to learn it at school. And sure sex isn’t THAT common for all the kids to be having it in a highschool, the l es that are usually have a lot of it tbh. I’m in year 11 and there are around 400 kids in my grade and I think about 120 of them are currently sexually active so it wouldn’t be out of the norm if everyone in jona’s circle was.

    1. Thanks for the input. I still believe that kids should be innocent for as long as possible. Of course they have to grow up sometime but they have the whole rest of their lives to be adults. As a mother I would love to recommend a book that I absolutely have no problem recommending. No ‘it was so good but….it has this or that ‘. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
