Synopsis:

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

I LOVED this book. Heartless is Marissa Meyer’s version of how Catherine became the villainous Queen of Hearts. No one plans to be the villain. I knew what this book was about. I knew she ended up being the Queen, yet I still had hope for Cath and Jest.

I have to confess I have never read Alice in Wonderland. I have only seen the movies. I really want to read them sometime. I feel that this author did an amazing job of recreating Wonderland and the characters in it. I felt like there were a few things that maybe I didn’t catch, since I have not read Lewis Caroll’s version of Wonderland. It seemed like there were double meanings though out the book. Just the name of things even. I thought they were clever. There are riddles, rhymes and puns. A heart of a Queen that seems to be tied to many different fates. It was beautifully written. I mean, it wrecked me. I’m a sucker for happy endings and going into this we know there won’t be one. It ended how I expected it would but at the same time not. I was turning pages as fast as I could read them, till the very last page. That is saying something. I totally recommend this read. It is a little quirky… because it’s Wonderland but a wonderful read nonetheless.

Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks dearest!! I’m do mad I’m just reading it now! I have had it since it came out and was under the impression is part of the Lunar Chronicles. I don’t know why. I’m dumb. It was so good!

      1. I had it for a while too until a Twitter friend suggested a read along. I am really hoping the writing style is similar in the Lunar Chronicles because I want to jump in to that series soon!
