Synopsis:

I’m almost at a loss of words to describe this book. I will always be honest on here and give you my true opinion, I’m just not sure how I FEEL about this book! Some friends and I have had this book picked out since before the Holidays and I did not make time for it. I had started it a few times but another book always caught my attention. Since I had to have it read by this weekend I started it yesterday. YESTERDAY. I read all day.. and stayed up till 1am. THE STORY IS AWESOME. It left me with a terrible cliff hanger and so today I will be reading the sequel: Wayfarer.
If it was so good and I read it in a day then why did I only give it 3.5 stars? Why am I not sure how I feel about this book?
Okay, I only gave it 3.5 stars because even though the story was amazing, it took me several attempts to get into it. It didn’t suck me in right away. I started reading at 9 am and found myself getting distracted and thinking about other things, or rereading the same page multiple times because I couldn’t figure out what was going on. It took me better part of the day just making myself read. If it wasn’t a book club book that I was determined to read it probably would have just sat on my shelf forever. Which would have been really sad because it ended up being a super fun read.
I’m not sure how I feel because I’m just not absolutely in love with the characters. Don’t get me wrong, they are good. I love Etta and Nicholas’ connection. Their adventure through time and cities is so fun to read about, but they are no Rhys and Feyre. Nor are they Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. They aren’t that couple that you are just rooting for and then you go buy all the bookish candles with their names on them. (.. or am I the only one that does that?) I’m hoping in the next book we get to see more in depth to their characters, and that I’ll change my mind. . and go buy the candles. There is definitely potential.
This book is an adventure/mystery and it totally lives up to that genre. There is that little bit of romance and a strong determination to save those you love. As you are trying to figure out Etta’s past so that she can save her future it all gets flipped upside down and I couldn’t put the book away. I just HAD to know what happened. Now that I finished the first book I can’t wait to jump back into the story, because the story is far from over.
