Synopsis:

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most–a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen and or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby–it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good–But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

*********

Hello dear book worms! Has anyone had time to make any serious dents in their TBR piles this summer? I have been rereading A Court of Thorns and Roses series and sometimes I enjoy that more. No stress or trying to get into a book but rereading one that you already love. Reading should never be “stressful” but it can be that way for me at times. I have goals I am trying to meet or deadlines I need to get certain books read by. Or just being busy with mom life and being too tired to read at night.  Somehow my love for reading will get a little lost. It turns into a job instead of a hobby. (That almost sounds crazy… If I could get paid to read books for a JOB .. I totally would do it)

Okay, you get it. This month was crazy for me but did a read anything new? I am so GLAD you asked! I did. Do you like Sirens and Pirates and faraway kingdoms?

When you are the daughter of the Sea Queen and she commands you to be a ruthless, cold blooded killer… you obey. Lira knows no other way so she takes the hearts of men. Not just men but Princes.  I really love her character. She questions things. She is brutal and ruthless but doesn’t want to be. The Sea Queen has tried to beat the “humanity” out of her and she she hides behind bravado and masks made of indifference to survive. She is known as the Prince’s Bane and is proud to hold that title. Until she meets the Siren Killer.

Elian loves the ocean. The sea is part of who he is and sailing his precious ship, the Saad, with his hand picked crew is the best thing in the world. That and ridding the ocean of its monsters. They can not be reasoned with and when he hears a tale of a weapon that can kill the Sea Queen, he decides to find it. Elian makes deal after deal to find the missing pieces to this quest. Nothing will stand in his way. One day his crew pulls up a drowning girl and she is nothing if not bewitch and Elian finds himself very curious about this mystery girl. I really loved his character as well. He is a Prince with a heavy burden. He is not fancy. He is a PIRATE. He is good at being one and is torn with giving it up for his crown.

When Lira disobeys the Sea Queen, her punishment is to become human and she must steal the prince’s heart for retribution. With her human heart and eyes she realized that they have much in common and instead of stealing his heart, if she isn’t careful he will steal hers.

I realize I pretty much just gave you an elaborate synopsis but this Little Mermaid retelling was fun and different. It was a quick read and as far as I know it is a standalone novel! So all of you that are looking for a fun summer read… HERE YOU GO!

Have a great week!
