You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

Hello all! I had felt like I didn’t read very much this month but now that I am writing my monthly wrap up I realize this was not the case. I just read things that I wasn’t PLANNING on reading. I really need to let go of the plans and just read wherever my little heart takes me. The Wicked King is a sequel to The Cruel Prince. I believe the next book will be titled The Queen of Nothing, and comes out January 2020. Yes. I know. The waiting will KILL me. The first and second book both end with giant cliff hangers. However, I think I enjoyed The Wicked King more and this series is becoming a favorite of mine! Let me tell you what I liked and didn’t like.

What I Liked: That the book picked up right were we left off. I felt like I was able to enjoy the world more now that I understood it was more of a dark twisty tale in the place of faerie. Not some Prince and Princess fairytale. I liked the writing more this go around. I felt like there was so much more going on. The Cruel Prince started out really REALLY slow for me but picked up about halfway through. By the end I was hooked and then angry that I had to wait. Now I have finished this tragically beautiful sequel to only be rehooked and angry that I have to wait again!

What I Didn’t Like: Reread that last sentence up above folks! The dang cliffhanger and the waiting! I wish I would stumble across a series that is just so good it has my heart and that ALL OF THE BOOKS WERE OUT. Occasionally I would read something and think.. “that was weird phrasing”.. but overall I feel Holly Black did a wonderful job with this one.

I sometimes wish I wrote reviews with spoilers just because it’s hard to really write my loves and hates about this book without giving things away. My whole point in blogging is to help you find books you want to read. Not spoil the whole thing! That being said.. if you have read these books and need to vent or just want to book chat, find my on my instagram page and message me! Thanks for reading!

xoxo,
