Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts by Nancy Campbell Allen

Emmeline O’Shea is determined to save the world—single-handedly, if necessary. A strong voice for societal reform, she is the natural choice to deliver a key speech at the end of the International Shifter Rights Organization’s week-long Summit in Scotland.

But when a death threat arrives at Emme’s home, she is immediately placed into protective custody, watched over by none other than her personal nemesis, Detective-Inspector Oliver Reed. The two have crossed paths many times, with disastrous results, but now they will have to work together in order to reach the Summit before midnight of the last day in order to ensure legislation is passed to protect the Shifter community.

As unseen enemies close in around Emme and Oliver, they struggle to reach Edinburgh by any means necessary, only to find Emme’s vindictive stepsister, Oliver’s vampire brother, and a dangerous political minefield awaiting them in Scotland.

Even more difficult is their own refusal to admit that the fiery animosity that once burned between them might be turning into the heat of romantic passion. Could a straitlaced policeman determined to uphold the law and an outspoken activist willing to break the rules ever find true love? Or will all their dreams shatter like glass when the clock strikes midnight?

I almost feel like I have to reintroduce myself to you all since it has been so long! I am 30 weeks pregnant and a mom of 3 other littles. With everything that has been going on in the USA I have been super behind with my reading this year. I just haven’t made the time, BUT I had to make time for this steampunk romance. I have read the whole series so far and each time I am left in awe of how Nancy Campbell Allen has pulled this off!

Imagine a world set in Victoria Era London. With magic and paranormal creatures. Then sprinkle in some mystery and steampunk. All of this is on top of a proper romance fairytale cupcake! Each book has been built with all these amazing genres doing a fantastic mash up! I absolutely loved it!

Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts is the Cinderella version in this series. I enjoyed the little things that popped out while reading that reminded me of that particular fairytale. The rush till midnight. Gus Gus and the pumpkin truck. I don’t want to ruin it! These things are best to discover on your own. Just know that recommend this series!

Do you need to read the previous books? No.

Would I recommend that you do? Yes.

If only because they are just as good. For REALS. The world building in this series will make a little more sense and past characters do show up. You don’t need to know who they are but it is nice to know. It feels like you get to see old friends again.

Thanks for reading friends!

xoxo,
